Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do you charge?
A: We charge $98.00 per hour for basic work and parts changing.  We charge higher hourly rates for work that is more challenging:  $111.00 per hour for skilled work involving diagnosis, modification, and fitting of parts; and $127.00 per hour for the work of a master welder to do welding and fabrication.
Q: Can I get an estimate?
A: If you want one, we give you a computerized estimate free of charge, with no obligation.
Q: Can you do my repair job on the spot while I wait?
A: Repair jobs that don't take much time, where one component has failed, we can often do on the spot.  More major repair work we do over a longer period.
Q: How long will it take to repair my hydraulic cylinder?
A: Hydraulic cylinders which don't require rod work often take 5 to 7 business days for us to get them back from the cylinder rebuilding shop, except in August and September, when the high volume of hydraulic work usually means a longer time.  Cylinders with a bent or broken rod will take longer.
Q: Do you have tow trucks for sale?  I want to buy a truck.
A: We are dedicated exclusively to repair of equipment, and we don't sell trucks or equipment at all.  If you want to buy a tow truck, go to and get a free magazine made up of only advertisements of tow trucks for sale.
Q: What make of towing equipment should I buy? (i.e. Jerr-Dan, Century, Chevron, etc.)
A: Every make of towing equipment will need repairs eventually.  The best advice we would give is to try to select a make that's likely to remain in business, so when you need parts and service two years from now you can still get it.  Unfortunately, when it comes to the major manufacturers, this advice narrows the field so far as not to be of much use.
Q: I have a tow truck I want to sell.  Where can I sell it?
A: We are dedicated exclusively to repair of equipment, and we don't buy trucks or equipment at all.  If you want to sell a tow truck, go to and place an ad.  This free magazine made up of only advertisements of tow trucks for sale goes out to the whole western part of the US.  You can also place an ad with the Dallas office of , which publishes the Big Truck Trader and Heavy Equipment Trader advertisement magazines.
Q: Can you fix the diesel engine/rear axle/front end kingpins/clutch/transmission/cab wiring on my tow truck?
A: We work only on the equipment on your truck, which basically means everything on your bed aft of the cab, plus your switch panel, turn signal switch, hydraulic pump, and PTO.  Diesel engines and so forth are not our field of expertise.  A mechanic shop should be able to repair those.
Q: Do you do warranty work for the major manufacturers?
A: We are pleased to do any kind of equipment repair work, including repairs on equipment which is still under warranty by the manufacturer.  Because we are not affiliated with the manufacturer, however, we will not be involved in any legwork to be reimbursed by them.  We will be happy to do such repairs on a customer-pay basis, in which case it will be up to you, the customer, to pursue what reimbursement arrangements you wish to pursue with the manufacturer.

It's important to keep in mind the true costs of having warranty work done.  Yes, if your equipment's still under warranty, the dealer may do the work at no out-of-pocket expense to you.  However, it's been our observation that most new equipment has a particular tendency to go down and need warranty work at 4:55 pm on Friday afternoon.  If you have to wait several days or several weeks to get your truck back, even if it's "free," you will have lost a lot of income in down time.

We, on the other hand, can often get to the repair sooner than the dealer, because repairs is all we do.  We'll charge you actual money to fix it -- it will not be free -- and then you'll more than earn back that expense by having the truck back, sometimes even being "money ahead" before the day's through.  Is being "money ahead" on warranty work something you care about?  Then give us a try next time you need warranty work.
